Due to its scanning speed, the Somatom Definition Flash 128-slice scanner can examine the heart at a radiation exposure level that is three times lower than the background radiation a person natually absorbs in a year.

Galichia Heart Hospital this week becomes the first hospital in Kansas and among only 30 in the nation to acquire the new Siemens SOMATOM Definition Flash 128-slice CT scanner, technology that is revolutionizing patient care. The SOMATOM Definition Flash is a new generation of Dual Source CT that requires only a fraction of the radiation dose usually required to scan even the smallest anatomical details at a faster speed than ever before. “We see low-dose scanning as not only being the right thing to do for our patients, but it's a real differentiator for us,” said Steve Harris, chief executive of Galichia Heart Hospital. “Our message is that we can provide superior image quality with very low radiation dose.” The SOMATOM Definition Flash has amazing results:
  • The scanner can perform a scan of the entire heart in just 250 milliseconds, less than half a heartbeat.
  • The scanner can image hearts with a fast pulse or an irregular beat so a non-invasive test can be performed without using beta blockers.
  • With a new level of image quality, the Definition Flash offers increased contrast without having to apply the higher radiation dose previously required. This will ensure that patients receive low dose scans that still deliver a high quality image.
  • Patients do not need to hold their breath during a thorax or heart CT, which is a special benefit for children, intubated and comatose patients

To celebrate our newest technology, Galichia Heart Hospital is offering a CT angiogram for only $149. This procedure averages $1,000 across the nation. A computerized tomography angiogram is an imaging test for various types of heart disease. Unlike a traditional coronary angiogram, the SOMATOM angiogram is non-invasive, which allows for minimal down time and no sedation. Patients are back on their feet in less than two hours. This test is ideal for people with moderate risk factors for heart disease, including blocked or narrowed arteries.
